Malayer, the city known for furniture
Ask a furniture retailer in Tehran, Mashhad or Tabriz where their sofas come from and you will very likely hear the name Malayer. Over several decades this small city in Hamadan Province has become Iran's largest furniture-making centre. Thousands of joinery, upholstery, wood-carving and finishing workshops operate side by side, and the craft has been handed from master to apprentice for generations. That is why Malayer is called the furniture capital of Iran.
Mahd Mobl Iran was born in the heart of that city. The name reflects it: *mahd* means cradle, and Malayer is the cradle of Iranian furniture. Our aim is to bring what this cradle produces directly into homes across Iran and beyond.
What we make
Our core work is sofas: sectionals, Chesterfields, sofa beds and loveseats. We also make classic and royal seating with hand-carved wood, and bedroom sets for couples, singles, teens and children. Alongside these we offer dining sets, coffee and side tables, TV units and consoles, plus cushions, bedding, curtains and lamps, so you can furnish a room from one place. For newlyweds we put together bridal (*jahizieh*) packages at a bundle discount.
How we make it
A sofa's quality lives in the parts you cannot see once it is upholstered, so that is where we are strictest:
- Frame: kiln-dried beech and alder, with joints secured by glue, dowels and screws so the frame does not loosen over time.
- Foam: cold-cure foam with a density matched to each design, so the seat is neither tiring nor prone to sagging after a few months.
- Upholstery: every cover is stretched and stitched by hand, and seams are checked one by one before packing.
- Packing: foam, bubble wrap and heavy cardboard protect each piece on the freight journey.
