A corner of your own

The armchair is the smallest member of the furniture family, yet it can set the character of a room. A well-shaped armchair by the window, with a lamp and a small table, creates a cosy reading corner.

Uses

• Completing a sectional or loveseat to add seating
• A reading or afternoon-tea corner
• In the bedroom, by the window or at the foot of the bed
• Adding contrast in a fabric different from the main sofa

Choosing an armchair

The seat should be at least 50 cm wide and the back suited to your height. For reading, a high back and broad arms are most comfortable. An armchair can be bolder in colour than the sofa and become the room's accent.
