You buy a bedroom set once and live with it for years. This guide covers bed and mattress sizes, what a set includes, body materials, hardware, colour and bedroom layout.

The bedroom is the one room in the house where you're meant to be completely at ease. The set you choose is the first thing you see every night and the last every morning; its drawers open and close daily and its wardrobe doors swing thousands of times. That's why bedroom furniture reveals its quality in daily use more than any other piece.
In this guide we've organised everything you should know before buying a bedroom set — from choosing the bed size to small details such as drawer runners and edge banding that few sellers talk about.

What does a bedroom set include?
A complete set usually has:
- Bed: with a headboard and sometimes a footboard.
- Nightstands: one or two beside the bed.
- Dresser and mirror: for folded clothes and quick grooming.
- Wardrobe: two, three or four doors.
- Dressing table: with mirror and small stool.
You don't need to buy everything at once. If the room is small or you have built-in wardrobes, buy the bed and nightstands now and add the rest later. Our wardrobes, dressing tables and nightstands are also sold separately.
Choose the right bed size
Common bed sizes in Iran:
- Single: 90 × 200 cm, for children, teens and guest rooms.
- Small double: 120 × 200 cm, for teens and single adults who want more space.
- Standard double: 160 × 200 cm, the most common choice for couples.
- King: 180 × 200 cm and up, for large rooms and light sleepers.
Leave at least 50–60 cm of walking space on both sides of a double bed and about 90 cm in front of the wardrobe for the doors to open.
Body material: MDF, wood or both?
Most bedroom sets today are made from laminated MDF, and that isn't necessarily a sign of low quality. Good MDF of the right thickness (16–18 mm for carcasses) with a scratch-resistant finish resists warping better than cheap solid wood. What matters:
- Panel thickness: thin panels bow under the weight of clothes.
- Edge banding: edges should be covered with thick, even PVC banding; exposed edges absorb moisture and swell.
- Finish: high gloss is glamorous but shows fingerprints; matte and wood-effect finishes are more practical.
In classic sets, frames and carving are beech and large surfaces MDF — combining the beauty of carving with the stability of MDF.
Hardware: details you feel every day
- Drawer runners: ball-bearing slides are smooth and silent and open fully; simple roller runners soon loosen.
- Soft-close: closes drawers and doors gently and silently — invaluable at midnight or with a sleeping baby nearby.
- Hinges: adjustable concealed hinges keep doors aligned.
- Handles: metal handles screwed from behind are sturdier than glued ones.
All our double bedroom sets use ball-bearing runners and soft-close hardware.

The bed base and mattress
What sits under the mattress? Sprung wooden slats, spaced and slightly curved, let the mattress breathe and prevent mould beneath it. Solid MDF bases are cheaper but offer no ventilation. If you're short on storage, a storage bed on gas lifts turns the space under the bed into a full cupboard — like our Sahel storage bed.
Choosing by age
- Couples: neutral colours and simple designs date more slowly. The Rosa set with its upholstered headboard and the walnut-effect Kaveh are two different takes.
- Bridal: bridal sets are usually more complete, including wardrobe, dressing table and full-length mirror. Read choosing a bridal bedroom set.
- Teens: teenagers need a desk, bookcase and personal space; a teen bedroom set should adapt as they grow.
- Children: safety comes first — rounded edges, water-based paint, a safety rail and anti-tip wardrobe anchors. See our kids' bedroom sets.
Colour and style
The bedroom is for rest, so gentle colours — warm white, beige, light grey, sage and light wood — are safer choices. In a small room, light carcasses and mirrors make the space look bigger. In large rooms, dark wood with an upholstered headboard feels warm and luxurious.
Budget and price
Price depends on the number of pieces, the body material, hardware quality and handwork such as carving. Compare the contents of each set carefully — a cheaper-looking set may not include a wardrobe or dressing table — and ask whether the mattress is included. On a tight budget, buy a good bed and mattress first; restful sleep matters more than having every piece.
Assembly and delivery
Most bedroom sets are shipped flat-packed so they aren't damaged in transit, with an illustrated assembly guide. Always anchor tall wardrobes to the wall, especially with children in the home. On delivery day, check the packages for damage, match the number of boxes to the delivery note and report any problem the same day with photos.
Laying out the bedroom
- Place the bed first: put it against the longest wall without a window, ideally visible from the door. Avoid placing it under a window, where draughts and morning light disturb sleep.
- Keep nightstands symmetrical: their top should be roughly level with the top of the mattress.
- Keep the wardrobe out of walkways: leave at least 90 cm in front of it. Put the dresser and dressing table near natural light.
- Leave empty space: if the room looks crowded, drop a piece such as the dresser. For small rooms, see small bedroom layout ideas.
Caring for a bedroom set
- Wipe surfaces with a soft, slightly damp cloth; avoid alcohol sprays and abrasives on gloss finishes.
- Every few months, check and tighten bed bolts and handles.
- Don't overload drawers — excess weight strains runners and drawer bottoms.
- Rotate the mattress every three months.
Final checklist
- I've measured the room, windows, door and radiator.
- I've chosen bed and mattress sizes.
- I know which pieces I need now and which later.
- I've asked about panel thickness, edge banding and drawer runners.
- I've matched the colour to the flooring and curtains.
- I know the warranty period and after-sales terms.
Summary
A good bedroom set combines the right size, a sturdy body, smooth hardware and a calm design. See our full range of bedroom sets, and if you're unsure, ask for a free design consultation.
Frequently asked questions
Is an MDF bedroom set better than solid wood?
Good MDF of the right thickness with proper edge banding is stable and economical. Solid wood is more beautiful and expensive but can warp if not properly dried. Classic sets often combine both.
What size is a standard double bed?
The most common double bed size is 160 × 200 cm. For larger rooms, 180 × 200 cm is also popular.
Is the mattress included?
In most cases, no. Mattresses are usually sold separately — always check before buying.
Can I assemble the set myself?
Yes. An illustrated guide is included and simple tools such as a screwdriver are enough. Tall wardrobes need a second person.
